School Tours
The Junior Docent Program
Each year, PMH staff and volunteers train a class of seventh and eighth grade students from local schools to lead third and fourth grade students through an interactive tour of the Fenyes Mansion. These Junior Docents learn about early Pasadena history, the story of the mansion and what life was like in the early 1900s. Once trained, the Junior Docents develop their teaching skills by helping younger children step back in time to learn about life on Pasadena’s Millionaire’s Row 100 years ago. They explore art and architecture, technology, and the social customs of the time. This award - winning program was inaugurated in 1988.
My Masterpieces: Painting the Beautiful
Developed in collaboration with PUSD and closely tied to visual arts curriculum standards, this award-winning art program focuses on Eva Scott Fenyes’s love of art. Mrs. Fenyes was an accomplished artist, patron and collector of art. PMH volunteers lead tours exploring the art collection in the Fenyes Mansion and the Finnish Folk Art Museum. The students discuss the use of varying artistic techniques and mediums and then participate in a hands-on sketching session in the garden and visit current exhibitions in the History Center. My Masterpieces is a collaboration of ten area cultural institutions, and is funded in part by a grant secured from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) by the Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF).
