LECTURE – Silent Flicks to Talkies
January 18, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Developing technologies transformed the world in the early twentieth century. New inventions and innovations changed how people could live their lives. There were new ways to travel, to communicate, and to be entertained! In the early 1900s, Pasadenans flocked to movie theaters, including Clune’s, the Crown, the Strand, and Jensen’s. It was an exciting way to enjoy a new art form. Film historian and musicologist Galen Wilkes will take us back in time and explore how the development of motion pictures took us from silent films to the first “talkies.” He will also demonstrate equipment of the period and show rare and unique films and videos from his collection.
